Post con wrap up

August 29th, 2010

Had a decent show! While I didn’t sell as much as I would have liked to, I saw a ton of old friends and made a bunch more new ones. That is worth its weight in gold.

One new friend I made was the amazing Garrett Hanna who, while being an amazing artist, is also a fantastically nice guy. We shared a table, I traded him a drawing of Wartortle for a print of Batman. And I didn’t notice as I was clearing out, but I left my markers behind at the show. Garrett emailed me and let me know he had them, and he is going to mail them to me.

Holy crap. What a standup guy. That was a few hundred dollars worth of markers I almost lost.

So yes, go look at his art because he’s a great artist and a nice dude who totally saved my bacon.

Will have more post con wrapup after I get everything done. I also need to sleep :(

I ams uper sad about my markers because it means there really won’t be many colour cards for my Clone Wars set that will be in packs. Sorry, guys! But that happens D:

Pre con teaser post! Artwork!

August 24th, 2010

As I have to finish a whack of my Clone Wars cards prior to going to the con, here is a teaser of art so I don’t forget to post it.

How Harold Got His Wings

This is the cover for the book! For the final piece I plan on spending about a month doing watercolour studies for painting the Northern Lights. Or I might do the entire book as my first fully digitally painted product. The book at the con has a colour cover, B&W innards.

Aaaand, finally:

Mini Magnets. These little tiny round disks have been painstakingly cut out by hand and are assembled behind a glass bead thing. I’m selling ‘em for $3 or 2 for $5 because they are quite the labour intensive little things. I will have a larger version of the illustrator icons in my digital art gallery post con.

Harold gets his book!

August 19th, 2010

This is what I’ve been working on for most of the summer, a (relatively) quick ash-canesque, black and white book for ‘How Harold Got His Wings’ (Written by the venerable Sarah Braun). The cover will be in colour, I’ll be staying up late tonight!

Just a sneak peek at my process. I draw at different sizes (And I had done my sketches for a larger format of book) so the toning is helping even out the shapes of the illustrations.

I’ll have this available at Fan Expo in Toronto, limited to 50, for $10. And you’ll get a scribble :D

501st helmet and ewok love buzz!

August 13th, 2010

Celebration V is happening and I am sad to be missing it, but I’m loving the press the 501st helmets are getting.

Cnet has my helmet featured in the photo gallery on this post (With my name misspelled, but I have sent an email to the author)

Starwars.com featured my helmet and a bunch of other sweet ones in their artist roundup!

For those of you who missed it, this is the helmet I customized for the 501st project – for Make A Wish foundation!

Life, the universe and everything

August 9th, 2010

I figure seeing as I have this site based on a blog platform I may as well blog! This month is a super busy one for me.

I’m working on Clone wars: Rise of the Bounty Hunter sketch cards, Hammer Horror sketch cards and I am four illustrations away from being able to throw together an early draft of ‘How Harold Got His Wings’ – which was written by the wonderful Sarah Braun based off my popular ‘Harold Got His wings’ illustration.

The ashcanesque first printing of Harold will be available at Toronto Fan Expo, and I’ll have a new sketch book, prints and a few other knick nacks at the table.

there’s life in a nutshell. now, back to drawing :)

What I did on my Summer Vacation – Icons

July 16th, 2010

I ran a little free icon drive (Not on the website, sorry, did it on some more targeted social networking things) to figure out how much to charge for icons. The full colour ones were for people who tipped (One of the ones on the full colour sheet is not in colour because I’m waiting for reference), the mostly monochrome ones were the free ones.

Want an Icon? 100×100 or 150×150 icons – $10 for colour, $5 for tones. One character only. If the character or scene you want is complex, the prices will be more.

Now to move on to some bigger pieces of art, I am going to get a very rough Harold book completed for the con, working on that this weekend while I am in an Internetless area!

Lazy sunday bike ride

June 20th, 2010

I’ve been drawing a lot, but I decided I needed a break. So I went on a 20km bike ride and took some snaps, including this one. Macro shots are taken usingĀ  a Canon Powershot AS590 IS. When I graduate and pay off some debts, I’ll be getting my hands on a DSLR with a macro and telephoto lens.
