First art of 2012 – Dragon Kitty and a Pony

January 8th, 2012

I’m experimenting with watercolours again. Apparently my muse just needed a break followed by a little artistic freedom. These both use the same palette, but with different results.

Dragon kitty: A commission. negative space is gooood!

And, as a card carrying Brony, I present to you the first colour image of my ponysona – Bacon Sparkles. Yes, I am a nerd. But if ponies keep me drawing, so be it. it isn’t the most challenging of poses, but hey.

Bacon Sparkles - My Little Pony

My LAST finished art of 2011 was also Pony related and in the throes of last minute knitting, I forgot to upload it here. My two favourite ponies, Applejack and Apple Bloom.

Holy Frijoles, long time no update

January 4th, 2012

My med lab placement has kept me busy, but I do have some random, various arts and knittings for you all!

Things I did in 2011 that I am proud of:

  1. Sold a few books, (but didn’t market it well.. so that’s a resolution)
  2. Regained my digital art mojo
  3. Finished the theory part of my MLT training
Oh, the book! I will have a separate post about it, I am sure, but for now:

How Harold Got His Wings. A fable about a Polar Bear who wants nothing more than to fly among the snow geese

$10 each, all copies include a sketch. Shipping is extra and you get free stickers with every book!

Here is the cover, and I will throw together a teaser PDF.  The interior illustrations are black and white and one of them is below, too!

I knit this cute little mouse family for some good pals in Hamilton.

Holiday Mice

More knitting and some art are found behind the break, but first: resolutions (The creative ones)

  1. I resolve to draw more. 2011 was a rough year as I was recovering from tendinitis of the drawing wrist and focusing on my education.
  2. I resolve to learn how to crochet.
  3. I resolve to finally finish that knitting pattern.
  4. I resolve to sculpt again.
  5. I will post more often!

More than just a pretty face

October 29th, 2011

Lately I’ve been doing more than just drawing. I’ve been knitting and sewing, too.  I have one commission I am working on, and that’ll be done this week!

Last year I hastily made a rat costume for our ‘Run for the Cure’ team. The mask is in desperate need of being redone (I made it in 2 days while I had the flu and it shows), so for halloween I decided to take a different twist on the Lab Rat, as I am a lab rat IRL now.

I decided I would make a hat instead of a full face mask so I can actually breathe in the costume and wear it to the lab on Monday. It consists of a simple hood-hat (Click for the pattern) and the tail I made last year. I repurposed the ears from the mask that needs to be redone, and sculpted a nosepiece out of model magic.

Rat mask

It was really fun to make. I handsewed the hat and the tail was also hand sewed. I am thinking of making more of these, but I don’t know what I’d do with them. Maybe auction them off or something. Unlike the hat in the pattern I linked, I added a snap under the chin so the hat is more of a hood-mask.

I have also been knitting. Here is a cowl I knit up!

Women of Wonder 2011 art – Cheetara

October 11th, 2011

For the past few years I’ve contributed various Wonder Woman themed pieces for Wonder Woman Day in Portland. This year the event has opened up to different female characters, so I chose one of my old favourites – Cheetara. I am a fan of her old, campy outfit. While the new Cheetara is certainly awesome, I am not a fan of her proportions or revealing costume, so I thought I would kick it up oldschool. Thundercats, HO! To get more info, visit the Women of Wonder site.

So here we are. Cheetara!

Amaran stuff

July 18th, 2011

I have an itch to do some visual world building for Amarans. I have a few little scribbles done, but I think I’m going to do some more. Otherwise it’s all ponies, all the time on this end. And there IS such a thing as too many ponies.

Wookieepedia did an awesome job of making my original Amaran Backstory much more eloquent than I had written, so go have a looksee!

Artwise, I have been knitting more than drawing, and the drawings I have been doing have been gifts, so I can’t show them off quite yet.

Thanks for stopping by the site! I will be revamping my store section once I am relocated to have my prints listed, and I will have an etsy store up for everything else.

X-Pony Prints available

July 14th, 2011

X ponies!I sold out at the con, and I have more printed now.

The prints are $5 each plus shipping – $2 Canada, $3 US and $5 International.

I am also taking You-As-A-Pony commissions!

Here’s the deal, any more details than this are more cash!

$15 each, watercolour, around 4×6 in 5×7 paper. (PLUS SHIPPING) All prices are in Canadian

What you get:

ONE body colour
ONE colour for mane and tail
Relatively uncomplex cutie mark
Eye colour
Your choice of unicorn, pegasus or earth pony.
If you want the mane or tail drawn in a certain way (Straight, curly, long, short) I will do my best.
Let me know if you want a brony, I will draw him with a squarer face and/or without eye lashes.

The pose is up to me. There are no backgrounds.

Addons:
Choose your own pose: $5
Complex body colouring (IE multiple colours) – $10 (Like if you wanted something like the X ponies)
Prop (like a hat, small furry animal, simple costume element, weapon) – $5
Multiple mane colours (Like, a stripe of a different colour) – $2
Unicorn horn and wings: $2
A second character (Like you riding yourself as a pony, or another basic pony in the same picture) – $10
Background – Varies. This can push the pony into full commission land as far as pricing.

Interested in a pony or a print? Shoot me an email and we’ll talk.

Please comment or send an email to amy at flyingarmadillo dot com and I will ponify you!

I DO have an example of a watercolour pony, but I can’t show it yet as it is a gift. However, watercolour ponies are awesome and not streaky like the marker ones. Note that I cannot guarantee exact colour matching with watercolours.

Below are some I did in Calgary, your ponies for the post con price are guaranteed to be streak free :D
